Daniel Diaz-Gonzalez, 42, a civilian Lubbock Police Department employee, was arrested on Wednesday and accused of assaulting an elderly person, Chief Seth Herman said. Court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com revealed some additional details on Wednesday evening.

Diaz-Gonzalez was a civilian sex registration coordinator at LPD. Herman said the assault happened in the lobby of LPD headquarters on July 24. The victim was a registered sex offender, Steven _____, 67. Herman said Steven was at LPD for a routine check-in with Diaz-Gonzalez at the time. Steven filed a complaint that day. Herman said the two were engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated. He also said the incident was captured on video.

Court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com stated Diaz-Gonzalez was in the process of completing Steven’s annual registration when they became involved in a dispute. Court records said Diaz-Gonzalez told Steven to leave the office, and the dispute escalated. According to court records, Diaz-Gonzalez reacted to a comment made by Steven. The two got closer to each other, court records said, and Diaz-Gonzalez pushed Steven to the ground.

I’m willing to bet that the officer in this story has a history of brutality and/or incompetence. Over the years, I’ve noticed that it’s usually the “problem” cops that get stuck in the registration office.

There’s no excuses for beating up an old person. Back in the early 2000s I went to do my annual registration and me and the lady who was doing the registration kinda got into it, she wasn’t a cop she was like a secretary or something we both were all around the same age 18 or 19 but this young cop comes out and starts slamming me against the wall and started searching me like I was being arrested then he got in my face screaming you got a problem showing off for the secretary.

What a piece of trash, pushing an elderly man that could be his father to the ground. Probably his anger came from daddy issues, and not from people he had to register everyday
